Despite efforts to fight bias-based harassment, more Asian-American and Sikh students are being bullied in NYC public schools, a new report has found.

The Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fundand the Sikh Coalition collaborated on a similar report back in 2009, which found that NYC public schools responded poorly to harassment and bullying, failing to offer adequate counseling to targeted students or fully investigate the incidents.

The same year, a Sikh student in Richmond Hill, Queens, filed a lawsuit against the Department of Education alleging that it failed to protect him from ongoing bullying.

The latest report finds that despite better preventative measures, schools have only seen the number of reported bullying incidents targeting Asian and Sikh students increase since then.
