Bus rapid transit for city’s southwest on council agenda

City council will debate today the merits of a proposal for administration to research the validity of a bus rapid transit in the city’s southwest.

Ald. Brian Pincott will push his council colleagues to agree to look at additional transportation for what he considers to be a troubled SW transportation corridor.

Pincott is asking for the city to look at a potentially larger scale BRT project — one that includes having dedicated bus lanes in order to shuttle Calgarians from Anderson Rd. along 14 St. SW, Glenmore and Crowchild and into the downtown.

Pincott has stated in the past he views this as an opportunity for the city to do something “different” for mass transit in Calgary.
