Funky, fresh, and described as “intense” by one of the stars of the show, Slice’s new Superstar Hair Challenge came back for its second season last week — and Calgary’s home to one of the stylists.
Jason Mellor, 33, was one of just 12 contestants picked from across the country to be pitted against other artists vying for the title as the best hairstylist in Canada, and he feels honoured just to be one of the ones “at the top of the heap,” never mind featured on the show.
“There’s some characters I’d like to remember,” he said. “Some were amazing; some I’ve kept in contact with.”
And his favourite judges weren’t necessarily the nice ones.
“Some of the personalities were different than what I’m used to,” he said. “The ones who were supposed to be mean, I liked them the most.”
And while he got along with some, there “are a couple (he’d) like to forget.”
“There was one fellow … he was really harsh,” Mellor said.
The stylist currently works at Curious Hair Skin and Body Salon in North Hill Mall.
The show airs every Tuesday night at 9 p.m. on Slice.
