Calgarians jet-setting to royal wedding

Calgarian Lisa Vettese remembers having a sleepover and getting up in the middle of the night to watch Prince Charles and Lady Diana’s wedding on TV in 1981. This year, however, she is going all out.

She was booked on a Tuesday evening flight and will be in London for Kate and William’s big day.

Vettese and her friend Kathie James, who between them have more than 50 years of experience in the bridal industry, began planning the trip in January.

“Initially we were going to the bridal show in the Bahamas but we decided it would be great to go to the royal wedding instead,” explained Vettese.

“It was just meant to be a fun holiday for Kathie and myself but everyone wants to know about it and the response has been great,” added Vettese.

The women are not alone in their excitement. Josh Traptow of the Calgary chapter of the Monarchist League of Canada has also noticed a lot of anticipation. “People are looking forward to all the pomp and pageantry.”

Overwhelming interest has led Vettese and James to start tweeting and blogging about their experience.

“I trust it will be absolutely chaotic and we haven’t decided if we will camp out or not,” added Vettese, “but I am looking forward to bringing back ideas to Calgary and trends.”
