Calgary officer charged with assault

Charges have been laid against an 11-year-veteran of the Calgary Police Service after an investigation into an incident just over a year ago.

According to police, the officer was charged for assault causing bodily harm after a complaint stemming from an incident while working alone as a one-man patrol car in the early morning hours of March 18, 2009.

Police said the officer had interaction with a female, and later an assault allegation was made by the female.

Results of the investigation were forwarded to the Edmonton Crown Prosecutors office and they advised the charge was warranted.

The accused officer, who has served with the CPS since 1999, has been assigned to administrative duty while the matter is dealt with.

The officer will appear in court April 28.
