Canadian competitors pumped for WorldSkills

WorldSkills Team Canada is raring to go after last night’s opening ceremonies, ready to take on the world this morning when 900 competitors in 45 categories begin competition.

Counting down the hours and minutes was seemingly endless for Team Canada’s Daniel Reid, a Cochrane native.

“(Today) is a big day and I think the excitement for the whole team is pretty much off the chart. You can feel the energy in the room and we’re just ready to go,” the telecommunications cabling competitor said.

Fellow Canadian Daniel Green, of Drumheller, said the entire team has been spending the last few days together in anticipation of the big day today.

“We pretty much do everything together and have been bonding, and I think we’re all just excited and we just really want to get started,” Green said. “I think the actual games themselves will actually go faster than the wait — too fast, actually.”

Competition begins at 10:30 a.m. at Stampede Park and is open to the public.
