Remember when the biggest problem with the Canucks was the lack of secondary scoring from a pair of identical redheads? Man, how times have changed.
The extent to which the Canucks rely on the Sedins to score is becoming more ridiculous by the day. While it’s not surprising that teams need production from their top players given the parity in today’s NHL, the Canucks don’t even have a chance when the twins are both held off the score sheet.
Eleven times this season both Daniel and Henrik have been held pointless on the same night and the Canucks have lost on every occasion. Vancouver’s 0-9-2 record in those contests screams for some hired help via the trade route.
If Dave Nonis doesn’t make a deal in the next few weeks, the folks at GM Place can start booking more concerts from mid-May on.
•Another big reason the Canucks are on pace to score even fewer goals than last season is the lack of offence from the defence. Vancouver defencemen have contributed just 15 goals through 48 games this season, a rate of less than one every three games. At the current clip, Canucks’ blue-liners will chip in only half as many tallies as they did last season, which is even more bad news for a club that’s starving for goals. Still think those injuries to Kevin Bieksa, Sami Salo and Mattias Ohlund are no big deal?
