Cape Breton police investigate suspicious death of 12-year-old

Cape Breton Regional Police are treating the death of a 12-year-old girl in a First Nations community as suspicious.

Police received a 911 call at approximately 12:40 a.m. Saturday morning to 3 Kitpu Cres. Emergency Health Services were also dispatched.

As a result a 12-year-old female is now dead after what police are calling a sudden death. They are treating the death as suspicious until all evidence is gathered to determine what happened.

Major crime along with the forensic identification unit and patrols also attended the scene.

An autopsy was scheduled to take place yesterday in Halifax.

Sgt. Barry Gordon of CBRPS Membertou division said in a release, “any sudden death is treated as suspicious until proven otherwise.”
