A Cape Cod man faces kidnapping charges after a tense hostage standoff in Chatham early Sunday.

Chatham Police said two men and a woman were being held hostage by 28-year-old Christian Joseph Sica, who was armed with a gun, before 5 a.m. Sunday.

Sica told the two men to leave his apartment at 11 Chatham Bars Avenue, while the woman was forced to stay, according to police.

The two men fled the apartment and called the cops. Police secured the area around the downtown Chatham apartment and called in the Cape Cod Regional SWAT team.

While details are still scarce, police said the woman Sica was holding eventually managed to flee the apartment unharmed. The SWAT team then entered Sica’s apartment, tasered him after he resisted arrest and took him into custody.

Police recovered a fully loaded .45 caliber gun inside the apartment. Sica now faces charges of kidnapping, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault on a police officer, possession of a firearm and assault with a dangerous weapon.

He could be arraigned as soon as Monday.

Chatham Police Chief Mark Pawlina said his department is still investigating what led to the hostage-taking.
