Car Free Day a chance to rethink habits

For five lucky OC Transpo customers, Car Free Day turned out to be the start of Car Free Year.

At an event to mark Car Free Day yesterday, transit services general manager Alain Mercier presented free annual express passes to five people who had entered a customer appreciation day draw in August.

Early morning rain put a bit of a damper on a group bike ride to a reception at Marion Dewar Plaza to promote cycling in the city.

Making cycling safe is a key step to promoting cycling, said Dutch Ambassador Wim Geerts.

He lauded efforts to make the city more bike friendly since his own experience of living in Rockcliffe and cycling to work downtown means he has to ride through difficult spots along Sussex Drive.

“I’m convinced that in the coming years, there will be many positive changes taking placing in this area,” he said.
