A carriage horse collapsed and died on W. 54th Street on Sunday, renewing animal activists’ call to disband the city’s popular horse-drawn buggies.
The horse, which died of unknown causes, collapsed as it trotted towards Central Park to begin a day’s work. The ASPCA said a necropsy will be done on the animal to determine a cause of death.
“It is long past time for New York City to join London, Paris and Beijing by ending this inhumane practice,” said Public Advocate Bill de Blasio today.
