Catch the T app rises to the top

Jared Egan’s Catch the T app is finally live in the iTunes App Store and currently is ranked No. 2 on the iTunes App Store Top Paid navigation list. Egan’s first version of the app, Catch The Bus, is No. 4 on the list.

“And this is a national list,” Egan said in an e-mail.

The MBTA announced Wednesday the release of three other third-party smartphone apps with real-time train data for the Red, Blue and Orange lines, including BostonBusMap for Android, MBTAinfo for Mobile Web and Excursion Boston for the iPhone.

T officials said it will be several years before Green Line real-time apps are available because the trolleys use different signaling technology.
