Celtics-Sixers tilts not what they used to be

The great Celtics vs. Sixers rivalry of yesteryear is no more. That’s what happens when one team is thinking championship while the other is hoping to get 9,000 people to show up for games.

But that doesn’t mean the Sixers’ players don’t have a little extra juice when the Celtics are in town.

“We know coming in the Celtics are a great team; they have All-Star players 1-5,” Philadelphia forward Thaddeus Young said last night.

The Sixers are well aware of everything the Celtics have been over the last couple seasons. And they’re also aware of what they added this summer: power forward Rasheed Wallace, a Philly native.

“In one guy they filled a lot of needs — size, 3-point shooting, post game, intelligence; he still has a lot left in the athletic department, so it’s a big addition for them,” Sixers coach Eddie Jordan said.

Wallace scored 20 points last night as the unbeaten Celtics (5-0) throttled the Sixers 105-74 in front of a sparse crowd.
