Chabot hopes to save base

Facing the prospect of having his east Calgary ward moved to the north side, Ald. Andre Chabot will make his final pitch Monday to save his political base.

City council has to redraw the boundaries for all 14 wards prior to the 2010 election to reflect population changes, but the solution being proposed by administration will see Ward 10 relocated, despite the opposition of its alderman.

Chabot will come armed with two alternative options that will allow him to remain on Calgary’s east side, which he has served since 2005 following a byelection.

Chabot noted if his last gasp fails, he has 60 days to file a petition to overturn a council decision.

If that also doesn’t work, Chabot said he would run in an existing eastern riding, likely in Ward 9 against Ald. Joe Ceci.
