Chad Ochocinco: Patriots make another huge deal

Who’s next, Red Grange?

The Patriots moved one step closer to their goal of acquiring every available former Pro Bowler tonight, when they reportedly flipped two draft picks to the Cincinnati Bengals for wideout Chad Ochocinco.

The bombastic pass-catcher will apparently cost New England a late-round pick in both the 2012 and ’13 drafts.

But like Albert Haynesworth, it’s potentially a small price to pay. Ochocinco is a six-time Pro Bowler coming off a year in which he caught 67 passes for a putrid Bengals team.

The former “Chad Johnson,” 33, has caught at least 53 passes in each of the last nine seasons. He caught 87 or more five times in a row in his prime.

Ten years into his career, that prime is long past. But Ochocinco will still provide the Patriots something they were lacking this morning: A solid WR counterpart to Wes Welker.
