Four men have been charged with break and enter into new home construction sites.
Halifax RCMP say on Nov. 27 an officer observed a U-Haul van leaving the White Hills subdivision in the early morning. The officer pulled the van over and allegedly discovered items stolen from a house under construction on Sandwick Dr.
Police say they then executed search warrants on various properties in Fall River, Hammonds Plains and Spider Lake, where they allege a large quality of construction materials including windows, doors, tubs, tools and lumber were recovered.
Police spokesman Cpl. Joe Taplin said theft from construction sites is an “ongoing issue.”
“It sometimes appears to be a prime opportunity for some people,” he said, referring to personal use of the items or underground sales.
Matthew Burry and Anthony McGuigan, both 23, have been charged with eight counts of break and enter with intent, and one count of possession of stolen property less than $5,000.
Jason Lunn, 38, has been charged with conspiracy to commit break and enter, break and enter with intent and possession of stolen property more than $5,000. Paul Durling, 38, was charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit break and enter, and two counts of break and enter with intent.
