City Council Speaker Christine Quinn has reportedly threatened to sue local news station NY1 for including a negative ad against her in its coverage.
Lawyers for her campaign wrote to NY1 to warn them to stop running the ad, according to the station.
The 30-second advertisement, which opens with smoke surrounding an empty table, warns that Quinn, a mayoral candidate, makes decisions “with her friends in the 1 percent.”
“On the issues New Yorkers care most about, she is always on the wrong side,” it ominously continues.
The ad was created by NYC Is Not For Sale.
According to NY1, her lawyer wrote to NY1 executives that if they continue to air the ad, “Your station bears responsibility for its content.”
Her campaign has accused rival and Public Advocate Bill de Blasio of being behind the ad, an accusation he said today in a letter “falsely and baselessly” attributed the ad to him.
