Cole Harbour fighter will have to wait for next fight

T.J. Grant’s next Ultimate Fighting Championship bout is on hold.

The Cole Harbour welterweight, coming off a successful debut at UFC 97 on April 18 in Montreal, had agreed to face Martin Kampmann at Ultimate Fighter 9 on June 20 in Las Vegas. But Scott MacLean, Grant’s manager, said yesterday the fight won’t happen because Kampmann backed out.

“T.J. agreed to the fight, Kampmann’s manager agreed to the fight and then Kampmann refused afterward,” he said.

Kampmann, nicknamed “Hitman,” has a 15-2 career record and is 6-1 in seven bouts on the UFC circuit.

The 25-year-old Grant beat Japan’s Ryo Chonan at UFC 97 for his fifth straight win and improved to 14-2. He is Nova Scotia’s first born-and-trained competitor in UFC.
