The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns host the Georgia State Panthers in a Sun Belt Conference clash tonight at 8 p.m. ET at the Cajundome. Last time these teams met was back on Jan. 10 where the Panthers won 89-76.
Georgia State is coming off an 82-76 loss to ULM on Feb. 6 which brings them to 16-7 overall and 7-3 in the conference. The Panthers are currently tied with Texas State and UTA for first place in the Sun Belt Conference.
Although Georgia State has an impressive record, they are 5-5 on the road this season so tonight’s contest will be no easy task.
One of the Panthers biggest strengths this season has been their three-point shooting. Georgia State is shooting 38.9% from behind the arc which ranks them third in the Sun Belt. Their biggest weakness is their rebounding; they are last in the conference grabbing just 32.9 RPG.
Junior guard D’Marcus Simonds is ranked sixth in the Sun Belt in scoring with 19 PPG on 42.3% shooting. He is one of five players to average double figures for the Panthers.
Louisiana is tied for fourth in the conference with Arkansas State and is 13-10, 4-6 in the Sun Belt. They have been struggling as of late and are currently on a three-game losing streak.
The Ragin’ Cajuns are one of the worst defensive teams in the Sun Belt, they give up 83 PPG and allow their opponents to shoot 46.7% from the field.
Senior forward Jakeenan Gant is shooting 54.2% from the field and averages 21 PPG. His points per game average tie him with ULM’s Daishon Smith for second in the conference.
