Company recalls over-the-counter cough syrup after realizing it contained morphine

A frightening recall notice by the FDA says a company is recalling every single bottle of its “Licorice Coughing Liquid” – after it was found to contain the highly addictive opioidmorphine.

“Consumers using this product may not be aware they are ingesting morphine,” the FDA explainedin the recall notice. “The productwas distributed to Chinese grocery stores in various cities in California, New Jersey, Hawaii, Illinois, Ohio and Nevada.”

The company that distributed the morphinecough syrup, Master Herbs, Inc., is located in California. The FDA added that consumers with questions regarding the recall should contact Master Herbs at 626-319-9915, Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. PST or via email at 999herbs@gmail.com.

Consumers shouldimmediately stop using the product and return it to its place of purchase. Likewise, the FDA advised retailers and wholesalersto “quarantine any remaining inventory and make arrangements to return the product.”

Americans who believe they used this product and experienced adverse side effects are advised to immediately contact their physician.
