Comptroller’s office launches Spanish, Chinese banking resource

A recently launched tool by the city comptroller expanded on Monday to offer Spanish- and Chinese-speaking residents access.

Comptroller Scott Stringer launched the “Take It to the Bank” website in June but announced on Monday during an appearance on BRIC TV that non-English speakers can now better find banks to open checking accounts with.

At least 21 of the 74 listed banks accept the city’s recently launched municipal ID card, which debuted in January to help immigrant populations better access city services.

The website allows users to compare features and fees among the 74 banks servicing the New York City area, including language assistance.

Thirteen percent of households across the five boroughs reported not having a basic checking account, according to the comptroller’s study.
