Construction frustrates condo residents

Residents of the high-class Aspen Estates development are growing frustrated with construction on 17th Avenue and 69th Street SW.

With construction creating chaos for commuters, many are turning to shortcuts that both inconvenience drivers and endanger the people living in communities they’re driving through.

“They’re blocking up our community for no good reason,” said resident Ethan Henkelman, 19, who said the construction adds three or four minutes to his 10-minute commute.

Henkelman, who lives in the West 17th lofts, said he doesn’t think many people in the community will be using the LRT once it opens, and he’s frustrated that they’re the ones having to deal with the construction.

“The biggest issue is coming home — you can’t turn left at 69th Street now legally,” Henkelman said, though he added a lot of people make the turn anyway.

Instead, Henkelman cuts through 77th Street, where resident Jayasheen Arcot said she’s seeing an increase in traffic, especially during peak times.

“I can’t let my kids on 77th Street to play because there’s plenty of traffic,” she said.
