Coun. predicts rebound after weekend blaze

Beaverbank-Fall River Coun. Barry Dalrymple says the fire damage to the Beaverbank Community Centre is “heartbreaking,” but he believes the community will respond and rebuild.

Halifax RCMP and fire services were called to the community centre, located at 351 Beaverbank Rd., at 2:39 a.m. yesterday. The building suffered extensive damage to its kitchen and main hall. Dalrymple said the windows along one side of the hall are completely busted out.

Dalrymple also said he believes that the fire was intentionally set.

“I have no problem saying that it is (arson),” he said.

This would not be the first time the community centre was targeted by vandals. Dalrymple said approximately a month ago the building’s windows were smashed out and the power meter was damaged.
