Councillor seeks review of Lansdowne sale offer

By asking the National Capital Commission to purchase Lansdowne Park, Capital Ward Coun. Clive Doucet may have illegally tried to sell a property he didn’t own, one east-end councillor alleged yesterday.

Innes Ward Coun. Rainer Bloess asked the city’s legal department to review a letter that Doucet sent to NCC CEO Marie Lemay, asking the Crown corporation to examine acquiring the city-owned park and halt the Lansdowne Live proposal.

Bloess said the suggestion to sell the park to the NCC for $20 million is so ridiculous that it couldn’t go unchallenged.

“It makes us all look silly, and at some point you have to call him out on those silly stunts,” said Bloess.

Any sale offer would require approval from council. Doucet said the letter is a request from a private citizen and not an offer to sell on behalf of the city.

Implying that he was acting on behalf of the city is malicious and Doucet is insisting Bloess apologize at the next council meeting.

“His motivation is to get me annoyed and lose my normal Zen calm, which he achieved,” said Doucet.
