Couple gets married in MetLife Stadium parking lot before Jets loss to Seahawks

New York Jets fans didn’t have much to celebrate on the field on Sunday, a Week 4 loss to the Seattle Seahawks dropping the team to 1-3. But in the parking lot before the game there was plenty to cheer about.

Robert and Christine Melofchik of north Jersey got married in lot L 7 before the game, their usual pregame hangout the site for their nuptials. The two, who got engaged last year following a Jets home game against the Washington Redskins, decided that they would want their special moment to be among their extended family of Jets fans.

L 7 is the lot of the first ever social media tailgate, founded by Jets fans on Twitter and having grown over the years. Routinely 150 fans converge on the lot to tailgate, many of them regulars who call L 7 their home for every game at MetLife Stadium. Fans such as ‘Fireman Ed’ routinely tailgate in that lot and Jets owner Woody Johnson makes the massive tailgate a frequent trip before games.

The couple met at a cookout in North Carolina five years ago and Christine has recently moved to north Jersey. She was a Pittsburgh Steelers fan but according to Robert she“changed that.” She is now a passionate Jets fan which surely prepare her for the ups and downs of marriage.

But surprisingly, doing their ceremony in a parking lot prior to an NFL games wasn’t a tough sell for the bride.

“She starting loving the life of going [to] every game,” Robert told Metro . “We both love the friends we met at the L 7 tailgate and we figured it is the perfect place to do it.”

Instead of a wedding cake they had cupcakes which they of course smothered in the other’s face.

It was a vow for life done amidst brats and brews and BBQs. A fellow L 7 tailgater got ordained just for this ceremony. They wouldn’t have had it any other way.

A loss to the Seahawks wasn’t part of the plans and there is no immediate honeymoon destination.

“No plans,” Robert said. “We consider the rest of our lives our honeymoon.”

The couple spent Monday completing their paperwork for their honeymoon.
