Police say they’re unsure why a van being driven by a 66-year-old man Wednesday morning suddenly swerved and hit a pole on Pembina Highway, killing an elderly woman.
Traffic was re-routed on Pembina Highway for the morning as police investigated the fatal crash, which happened around 1:30 a.m. Police said the van was travelling southbound on Pembina Highway when it veered off the roadway and hit the pole, coming to a stop in front of a gas station in the 500 block. Winnipeg police said there were four people in the brown Toyota Sienna. Three were taken to hospital in stable condition.
