Crosby family basks in ‘wonderful’ Cup celebration

For every special moment in Sidney Crosby’s life, his parents, Troy and Trina, were there to see it.

Friday was no different.

“I don’t think there are any words to describe this,” Trina said, shortly after watching her son honoured by thousands of fans who followed him from the parade route to the stage set up in the parking lot at Cole Harbour Place.

“This is just incredible.”

When Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins won the Stanley Cup in June, the TV cameras went to Troy and Trina several times for their reactions from their seats in the arena. And while that was undoubtedly a very special moment for the Cole Harbour parents, watching their son bring the Cup home ranks up there, too.

“It’s a proud moment for the family,” Troy said.

Both of Crosby’s grandmothers also took part in the parade – and did so by “riding in a corvette along the route,” Sidney said.

In his speech to the crowd following the parade, Crosby singled out his family, including his parents and younger sister Taylor, for all that they’ve done for him over the years.

“What can I say, my family has been incredible,” he said. “Thanks very much Mom and Dad, Taylor, everybody. This is what it’s about. Thanks for helping me get to my dream.”

Crosby decided to bring the Cup to Cole Harbour on his 22nd birthday. Trina admitted this celebration would be hard to top.

“They’ve said I had good parties, but this is really something else,” she said. “It’s just wonderful.”
