Deadly morning

Homicide detectives were kept busy yesterday morning, after a dead man was found outside an apartment building in the city’s north end, and a woman was found fighting for her life on a residential street.

The first victim was discovered shortly after 1 a.m. on grass steps from the front door of Prideview Apartments at 8310 Jasper Ave.

The adult male, whose body remained on scene covered in a white sheet through the morning commute, was pronounced dead on scene.

Detectives spent much of the morning interviewing residents and scouring a sixth-floor apartment.

The second victim was discovered after emergency crews received a call at 4:10 a.m. with a report of a woman lying injured in the street.

Paramedics found the victim at 79 Street and 121 Avenue with serious injuries.

She was transported to hospital in “very critical” condition, Edmonton Police Services spokeswoman Patrycia Thenu said.

Identities of both victims have not been released.

If confirmed homicide, the male victim will be considered Edmonton’s 20th homicide victim of 2009. There were 22 homicides this time last year.
