Dealer pleads guilty

A local auto dealer has pleaded guilty to five charges under the Occupational Health and Safety Act in relation to an explosion which killed an employee in 2008.

O’Regan’s Chevrolet Cadillac Ltd. will be back in court on Oct. 18 for sentencing.

Under the Act, the maximum fine is $250,000 and/or a maximum prison term of less than two years.

Kyle Hickey was working at the O’Regan’s Kia body shop in Dartmouth just before 4 p.m. on March 13, 2008 when an explosion rocked the building.

Hickey was severely burned and died the next day.
