Democrats worry over losing Anthony Weiner seat

Anthony Weiner’s seat is up for grabs today, and even Gov. Andrew Cuomo and former President Bill Clinton are concerned.

Weiner’s June resignation, after admitting to sending sexually explicit Twitter messages, prompted a special election for his seat in the 9th congressional district in Queens.

But Weiner’s party is not sure their candidate will win. Yesterday, Republican Bob Turner was leading Democratic state assemblyman David Weprin by six points — 47 percent of voters supported Turner, with 41 for Weprin in a Public Policy Polling survey.

Cuomo and Clinton both lent their voices to an automatic calling campaign urging New Yorkers to vote for Weprin.

Despite the fanfare, the district may not even exist much longer — it’s at risk of being eliminated when New York loses two House seats in redistricting.
