Driver charged in stolen car, hit-and-run

Charges have been laid against the driver of a stolen truck in a hit-and-run collision stemming from the weekend.

According to police, around 7:45 a.m. last Saturday, a stolen white GMC Yukon sped through a red light at the intersection of 4th St. and 20th Ave. when it struck a green Chevrolet Malibu. Police say the driver then failed to help the injured occupants and was picked up on scene by an accomplice who was also allegedly driving a stolen white GMC Suburban.

The 59-year-old male driver of the Malibu was sent to hospital with critical head injuries and a 58-year-old female passenger was sent to hospital with serious injuries.

Police have charged the alleged driver of the stolen vehicle, Carl James Schuyler, 25, with two counts of failing to remain at the scene of an accident causing injury, two counts of dangerous driving causing injury and one count of theft under $5,000. The alleged driver of the stolen accomplice vehicle, David Paquette, 18, of Calgary, has been charged with one count of theft under $5,000.

Both victims remain in hospital. Police are still investigating.
