Dry spell comes to wet end

The driest August in Vancouver history came to an ironic end yesterday when at least 60 millimetres of rain fell, marking the wettest day the city has seen in more than five years.

“It does look like the rainiest day since January 2005, which was in the middle of a rainstorm that (sent) a house down a hill in North Vancouver,” said John McIntyre, a meteorologist with Environment Canada.

He said the sun should come back out sometime this afternoon.
