Early glance at who Jets, Giants could take in first round of draft

A cornerback for the New York Jets and a defensive end for the New York Giants, so goes the first mock NFL Draft from one of the nation’s top draft experts.

The Super Bowl didn’t even happen a week ago and already there’s a mock draft in place, this one from Rick Serritella of NFL Draft Bible. The Jets, picking No. 6 have plenty of holes to fill after a 6-10 season where they looked awful on both sides of the ball. And the same could be said for the Giants, who despite making the playoffs have a couple key spots for concern if they want to become Super Bowl contenders.

Despite the most glaring issue on the Jets being quarterback, Serritella has them not going with Mitch Trubisky but instead cornerback Tre’Davious White. Interestingly enough, Trubisky is the only quarterback Serritella sees going in the first round.

Of the LSU cornerback White, Serritella writes:

“An overhaul is in store for the Jets secondary beginning with a move to safety or release of Darrelle Revis and no other proven veterans on the roster.”

White is the second cornerback off the board in the draft as Ohio State’s Marshon Lattimore went a selection before to the Tennessee Titans.

As for the Giants way down at No. 23, Serritella doesn’t see offensive line help or running back. Instead, he has the Giants going with another pass rusher.

Here the pick is Derek Barnett from Tennessee, a defensive end who Serritella thinks will replace Jason Pierre-Paul, set to become a free agent:

“The organization has shown the propensity to stack defensive ends in the past and with Jason Pierre-Paul making his desires known that he will not accept another one-year deal, [general manager] Jerry Reese could look to ensure himself.”
