Barnet F.C. hosts Brentford F.C. today at 2:40 p.m. ET at The Hive Stadium in the fourth round of the English FA Cup. This is the first time since the 1925-26 season that these two clubs will face each other in the FA Cup.
Barnet is 10-5-11 with 35 points in the English National League and is ranked 17th out of 24 clubs. The English National League is the fifth highest league in the English Football League system.
Their last FA Cup contest came back on Jan. 6 where they won 1-0 over Sheffield United in the third round. Shaquile Coulthirst scored the lone goal in the 21st minute on a penalty shot.
Goalkeeper, Mark Cousins is suspended for today’s action. He received a red card in Barnet’s last matchup on Jan. 19 against Braintree Town where they lost 4-0. 19-year old Rihards Matrevics will be making his full debut today in goal.
Brentford is 18th in the English Football League Championship with an 8-10-10 record and 34 points. The EFL Championship is the second-highest league in the English Football League system behind the English Premier League.
They are coming off two straight wins in the EFL since their 1-0 win over Oxford United in the third round of the FA Cup back on Jan. 5. Forward Neal Maupay scored the only goal in the contest in the 80th minute on a penalty shot.
Brentford will be without midfielders Emiliano Marcondes and Lewis Macleod this afternoon due to their ankle and hamstring injuries.
History is on Brentford’s side in today’s contest. Brentford is 9-4-0 in their last 13 matchups against Barnet, their last loss came back in 1991.
