Big news, nerds! The new standalone Star Wars film has a name and a director.
Star Wars spinoff will be called 'Rogue One,' features Felicity Jones
Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger, announced at a shareholder meeting that new film will be called “Rogue One” and will be directed by Gareth Edwards ("Godzilla').
The script will be written by Oscar nominated Chris Weitz (“About a Boy”) and will feature Oscar nominated actress Felicity Jones (“The Theory of Everything”).
“Rogue One” will be the first film of the Star Wars Franchise to explore stories outside the primary Star Wars epic. Initial filming is set to begin this summer in London. The film’s projected release date is December 16, 2016.
