Everything we know about The Hills reboot so far

The Hills reunion show

Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County, which lasted for two years (2004 to 2006) and three seasons on MTV, followed “beautiful teens” of Laguna Beach, California as they navigated their puberty-rich (and rich-rich) high school days. A spinoff, The Hills, then followed these characters and some new reality stars (still very much so rich and beautiful) into adulthood. Nine years after its July 2010 series finale, The Hills reunion show is coming to TV screens nationwide.

During the 2018 MTV VMAs red carpet event, The Hills alums teased a big announcement. Halfway through the awards show, the network confirmed The Hills reboot for 2019.

Here’s what we know about this Hills reunion, The Hills New Beginnings, so far.

The Hills reunion cast

The reboot will feature members of the original cast, their children and friends.

The following OG cast members are reportedly confirmed for The Hills reboot: Heidi Montag (now Heidi Pratt), Spencer Pratt, Audrina Patridge, Stephanie Pratt, Justin Bobby, Frankie Delgado, Whitney Port and Jason Wahler.

Not everyone is returning though.

Kristin Cavallari said back in June that she was all for the reunion. However, she’s reportedly staying off The Hills New Beginnings to focus on her own show, a source told PEOPLE

The source said that the reboot would interfere with Cavallari’s current contract with E!, on which her reality series, Very Cavallari, recently premiered.

“But she’s still close with Heidi and Spencer and is excited for them,” the source added.

A source confirmed to PEOPLE that Lauren Conrad won’t be involved either, saying, “She’s in a different place in her life, but she wants everyone to enjoy themselves. She wishes everyone the best.”

Port told Cosmo, “I really wanted both [Lauren] and Kristin to come back because the show was pretty much based on the two of them. I feel like it would have been so great to have everybody involved. But people go in different directions, and we’re older now, so I understand not wanting to be on TV anymore.”

It’s unlikely LC’s sidekick, Lo Bosworth, will be signing on for The Hills reboot. According to E! News, she responded “f**k no!” when asked on her podcast in February about a Hills reunion.

She called the reality show “ancient history.”

Also, remember that time Brody Jenner was introduced as Pratt’s buddy — and LC’s “friend” — on The Hills?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jenner and wife Kaitlynn Carter, a blogger and model, are both in negotiation with MTV to join The Hills New Beginnings.

A few new people are also reportedly joining the cast, but these details have yet to be revealed.

The Hills reunion plot

This revival will presumably act as a “where are they now” recap, similar to The Hills: That Was Then, This Is Now 10th anniversary special that aired in 2016. It focused on LC’s achievements post-production (she left The Hills in the middle of season five).

LC revealed a number of juicy tidbits about The Hills on this special — such as her “forced” romance with Jenner.

The cast has come a long way since the reality series. LC made a name for herself in the fashion industry. Cavallari has a mansion in Nashville. Heidi and Spencer tied the knot (because, of course). Many of them have children of their own.

This Hills reunion show could showcase exactly what happens when reality stars of yesteryear (though still well-off) become parents in today’s age.

Port revealed to Cosmo that she doesn’t think The Hills reunion will be scripted because producers are “really going to look at what’s actually going on in our lives. There’s probably enough happening in all of our lives that it will speak for itself and [drama] won’t have to be created. Fans and viewers can see right through the fake stuff.”
