Another dream, dead: the next Bachelor has been announced and it’s not Peter Kraus so, does it even matter?
ABC has chosen a dude named Arie Luyendyk Jr., who looks great for 2008, as the next “Bachelor” star. He hails from Emily Maynard’s 2012 season of “The Bachelorette,” which is irrelevant to me because the only Bachelorette I care about is Rachel Lindsay. Even if she chose wrong.

“We’ve kept in touch over the last few years but this just fit perfect, the timing of this really fit,” Luyendyk Jr. said this morning on “Good Morning America.” “I was a little skeptical just because we’ve been in talks for a few years about doing it. But I just kind of went in with an open mind and an open heart and it kind of just hit me right now that I’m here.” Sure, pal.
As the Hollywood Reporter notes, the star of “The Bachelor” or “The Bachelorette” is usually a fan favorite from the previous cycle. ABC’s underwhelming decision to pick some dude from five years ago — instead of hot Disney prince Peter, or hot Eric Bigger, who is like, fire emoji hot — is kind of a bummer. I guess ABC was like, “But we cast a black ‘Bachelorette,’ our work here is done!”
Anyway, here are five things to know about the new, nobody “Bachelor.”
1. He was a runner-up.
He was rumored to be taking on the “Bachelor” gig after losing out to Jef Holm, but the role went to Sean Lowe, who finished third.
2. And he was the first pick for the 2015 season, too.
ABC ultimately went with Chris Soules because Luyendyk Jr. hadn’t been on the air for two years. Again, it’s been five years now, so not sure what changed.
3. He’s a race car driver.
Basic as they come, right? Luyendyk Jr. is a two-time Indy 500 winner who also does real estate and lives in Scottsdale, Arizona. If that’s what you’re into. Hint: I’m not.
4. His father was a race car driver, too.
How original! His father is famed Formula One racer Arie Luyendyk Sr.
5. He was born in the Netherlands.
Immigrant bae! Except, not really a bae. Can you guys tell I’m not about this? Luyendyk Jr. and his family immigrated to the U.S. when he was three-years-old.
