Ex-cop’s trafficking case held

An ex-Vancouver police officer appeared in court Thursday one day after he was fired from the VPD and arrested at police headquarters for allegations he trafficked marijuana while on duty.

Peter Hodson appeared before a justice of the peace at Provincial Court in Vancouver yesterday. The slender 31-year-old has short-cut brown hair and was wearing a light-blue patterned T-shirt.

He rested his forearms on the railing of the prisoner’s box while his lawyer Vincent Michaels requested that the matter be put over until Monday.

Hodson, who quietly thanked the justice as he was led away, will be held at the Surrey Pre-Trial Centre through the weekend. His next appearance will be to set a date for his upcoming bail hearing.

Outside the courthouse, Michaels cautioned a knot of reporters that “allegations are not evidence” and hoped that the public would wait to make up their mind in the case.

He would not comment on how his client was doing.

A former University of B.C. basketball player, Hodson founded Under The Reading Tree, a charity that aided literacy efforts in Africa On Thursday, however, Hodson’s photo and profile had been removed from the charity’s website.
