Ex-Rainman to play for IBL title

DeAndre Thomas is on the verge of winning an International Basketball League title.

The six-foot-eight centre, who left the Rainmen in late March to join the Albany (N.Y.) Legends, will go up against the Bellingham Slam on his home court in the IBL’s one-game championship Friday.

Thomas didn’t get much floor time in Halifax, but is one of Albany’s key players, along with former NBA point guard Kenny Satterfield. He is averaging 16.4 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. The club went 18-3 to finish first.

The Rainmen supported Thomas’ move to the IBL. Owner Andre Levingston has said he would like to bring Thomas back to Halifax in 2011.
