Fallout: Plaxico latches on

Free agency continues to barrel down the hill at a rate never seen before. It just won’t stop. Let’s dive into the fantasy fallout of some of the weekend’s big moves:

1. JETS SIGN PLAXICO BURRESS – Braylon Edwards isn’t coming back and Jerricho Cotchery will play the slot. Santonio Holmes and Burress will play on almost every down, but I don’t have high hopes for our friendly convict. He’s going to be 34 years old, hasn’t played since 2008, spent 18 months in jail and the Jets are a run-first offense. I’ll pass.

2. BENGALS RE-SIGN CEDRIC BENSON — Yawn. The Bengals are adamant that they won’t give Bernard Scott a chance to be the feature back. This is a bad team with a bad quarterback situation and a bad offense. Avoid.

3. JAMES JONES RE-SIGNS WITH THE PACKERS — Ugh. I had Jordy Nelson on top of all my sleeper lists, and now I just can’t be too excited about it. While the Packers run as many 4-wide sets as anyone, there just aren’t enough footballs to go around. Nelson and Jones figure to alternate big weeks, making it impossible to predict who to use in fantasy. Oh, and no one should be drafting Donald Driver.

4. VONTA LEACH SIGNS WITH THE RAVENS — I know what you’re thinking. Fullback news? But note that Leach is the best lead-blocker in the NFL. Just ask Arian Foster. Now Leach goes to Baltimore to pave the way for Ray Rice. I’d love to get Rice in the middle or back of any draft, especially with Willis McGahee now in Denver.

5. WILLIS MCGAHEE SIGNS WITH THE BRONCOS — Make no mistake, McGahee is meant to be a complement to Knowshon Moreno, not the other way around. Coach John Fox loves to use two-back attacks (see his work in Carolina) and both will get full series at a time. But as the younger, more talented player I think the split will be about 65-35 in favor of Moreno.
