Feist does teacher proud

One of Calgary’s best kept secrets isn’t a hush-hush anymore and one local music teacher knew all along.
Voice teacher Dawn Johnson, who has taught at the Mount Royal Conservatory for 14 years, wasn’t surprised to hear of Juno nominee Leslie Feist’s success, after all she taught her as a student.
“I wasn’t surprised one bit to see Feist become so successful. She was an exceptional student and had a great voice,” Johnson told Metro.
But even if Feist didn’t become a popular indie-rock singer of iPod commercial fame, she would have been good at anything she did.
“She was just the type of person that would be successful at anything. She had an open mind, she was goal-oriented and determined; all good qualities to have.”
Feist is in town this weekend hoping to scoop her fair share of Juno awards. She will be performing in her home town on Sunday at the Saddledome during the awards.
“I am really excited for her and I would love to meet up with her but I know she is a busy girl. I will watch and will be proud though, it’s very gratifying,” Johnson said.
