Five weekend stabbings leave one dead

One young man is dead and four others were hospitalized after being stabbed in separate incidents over the weekend.

In all, there were six stabbings in Vancouver last week, three of which left young men dead, including 21-year-old Tyson Edwards, who was buried Saturday.

Edwards was stabbed to death on Feb. 1 outside Richard’s On Richards nightclub.

His mother, Carla Edwards, pleaded for witnesses to her son’s murder to come forward, saying that this “beautiful city” has changed in the 24 years she’s lived here. More and more youth are being targeted by violence, she said,

“What scares me most is that we are becoming immune to it all,” she said. “We watch the news and see what is happening in our streets and we shake our heads and sigh.

“Our city is changing … We need to come together as a community to try to solve this epidemic of violence.”

The latest to die in Vancouver’s most recent stabbings was William Wayne Cloud, 19, who was found dead in the washroom of a South Vancouver home early Friday morning.

That same morning, a 21-year-old man was hospitalized after being stabbed in a fight at a Gastown nightclub.

A fight between a group of teenagers near the Plaza of Nations on Saturday sent two people to hospital with stab wounds.

Two hours earlier, a 20-year-old man had been taken to hospital in serious condition after being stabbed near Burrard SkyTrain station. Several people were arrested in connection with that incident.
