For Dutch, animals on ballot

HOLLAND. When the Dutch cast their votes today, animals are hoping to be the winners. For the second time, the elect-orate have the chance to vote for the Partij voor de Dieren (PvdD) — the Party for Animals.

Party leader Marianne Thieme and her PvdD have been criticized for being a single-issue party, only paying attention to animal rights. The PvdD rather sees itself as a “witness party,” not striving to obtain political power, but trying to be influential by inspiring other political parties to stand up for animal rights.

The party was founded out of disappointment over the lack of other parties to protect animal rights.

If the polls are right, Thieme and Ouwehand will both return to parliament to promote animal rights, to fight for the end of the bio-industry and to annoy the crap out of a new minister of agriculture.
