Forest Lawn’s facelift on its way

Forest Lawn will receive a long-awaited facelift, much to the relief of community members.

Council approved an urban design concept yesterday, which will focus on revitalizing of 17th Avenue S.E. corridor.

“This means the world,” said president of the Forest Lawn community association, Bruce Moreton. He said the community has long felt ignored by the city, but the concept is “a great step forward.”

The plan will focus on sustainable transportation such as transit and biking as well as development of commercial and residential units. “We’re extremely excited.

I think it’s been a great day for greater Forest Lawn and International Avenue,” said Alison Karim-McSwiney of the International Avenue Business Revitalization Zone.

Karim-McSwiney said council will now move forward on a market study and will hopefully begin to implement the plan soon.

“I don’t have the exact timelines yet but at least we’re on the right track,” she said.
