A former city cop once applauded for bravery has been charged with assault with a weapon, a police watchdog organization revealed yesterday.
Former EPS Const. Rodney Wadden was among a group of officers who entered a residence on Oct. 25, 2006, to arrest an individual.
Alberta Serious Incident Response Team executive director Clifton Purvis wouldn’t elaborate on the circumstances, but said the events during the arrest led to Wadden being formally charged on Sept. 10. The EPS veteran officer was awarded the Lifesaving Bronze Medal by the force in 2006 after he rescued a trapped driver from a vehicle engulfed in flames. Wadden is no longer employed by the EPS, and now works as a constable in New Brunswick.
