Get to know: Callan McAuliffe

Charming Australian actor Callan McAuliffe is only starting his junior year in high school, but he can already brag that he is the star of a blockbuster film and Rob Reiner gave him advice on how to survive on set. In “I Am Number Four” he plays alien Number Four’s hopelessly nerdy human sidekick (who just so happens to be a UFO fanatic). We put a few get-to-know questions to McAuliffe before his fame blows up in Hollywood.

If you had to eat at one fast-food chain for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Subway. I think it’s just ‘cause it’s easy to eat. I used to love McDonald’s before I came to America. Enough said.

Name one reality show you’re ashamed to admit that you love.

For the most part, I really dislike reality shows. When I watch TV, I watch something fictional or informative most of the time. I really don’t want to watch a bunch of people battling. But I will confess that I was a bit entertained by “Big Brother” back in Australia.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Get as much sleep as you can when you’re on set. I’m fairly sure that was from Rob Reiner on the set of “Flipped.” I’m sort of developing my ability to sleep randomly. I’m still not very good at it.

What’s the one question you’re constantly asked in interviews?

How do you do the American accent?

Even though you’re still a teenager, we’ll ask: What celebrity did you have a crush on when you were younger?

Probably Jessica Alba or Miranda Kerr — or even Ellen Page.

Name another actor’s career that you’d like to emulate.

Johnny Depp, just because of the diversity in all his roles and all the characters that he’s played. I think he’s amazing. I think the ultimate goal for an actor is to not play yourself in every movie.
