If you’re a sports fan in America, you go through three stages with the catchy TV commercials that air during a respective sport’s postseason (or in the NFL’s regular season).
1. The “Crap, that thing’s going to be stuck in my head for the next two months” phase.
2. The “I am literally leaving the room during time outs to avoid seeing that trash again” phase.
3. The “Irepeat that commercial in my head, and every so often mumble it out loud while zoning out at work” phase.
We’re all currently in the third stage with that AT&T commercial with the little girl who thinks she can turn raisins into gwapes. We were at that stage with the “Hot, hot, hot, hot” DISH TV commercial during the NBA playoffs last spring. And of course, we were at that stage in 2004 with Peyton Manning’s “Cut that meat!” MasterCard commercial.
The best part about these commercials is that the memory of each of them fades over time, sometimes for the worse, typically for the better.
With news breaking Monday that Bootsy Collins released an absolutely horrid Sports Illustrated for Kids holiday music video called #t=70″ target=”_blank”>”Peyton Manning’s passing your way,” it brought back frightening commercial memories of the original Bootsy sports classic. NBA fans have been trying for 11 years now to get the following out of their heads. The joke here is on you and me … But rest assured, Glory B, the funk is definitely all on me, bobble.
