GM dealership cuts don’t faze locals

Some area GM dealerships were on pins and needles following a corporate announcement, said one area GM dealership manager.

GM announced yesterday that they are cutting 34 per cent of their Canadian dealerships, as Federal and Ontario governments requested that it accelerate its restructuring.

“It’s no secret that North American manufacturers have an advantage and are more profitable on trucks then cars,” said Marc Rachiele, general manager of Keith Pontiac Buick GMC Ltd. in Okotoks. “I would guess that there would be far fewer dealers that will disappear in Alberta, than in more densely dealered areas that depend on passenger cars.”

245 of 709 Canadian dealers will be shutting doors, according to reports.
