Great new razor makes shaving legs a pleasure

Leslieville’s Baby On The Hip is among the participants in this weekend’s WonderMom event.

Super shave

Just when FF was ready to toss out her razor and opt for waxing, Gillette comes out with the Venus Breeze razor. It’s a triple-blade with a self-lathering gel frame that lubricates (eliminating cream or soap) and makes shaving the Sasquatch-legs of winters a breeze — even a pleasure — leaving gams soft and smooth.

The handle is compact yet comfortable and flexible in the hand, allowing for safe and easy fuzz removal with no cuts on the knees, feet or ankles.

Scoot to your favourite drugstore and treat yourself to silky calves galore for $12, including a refill. More info at: www.gillettevenus.com.

Wonder Mom

This weekend, consider exploring Queen Street East’s hip strip known as Leslieville where local indie boutiques, galleries and eateries will be hosting “WonderMom” — a family-friendly celebration of motherly fabulousness. Expect inspired nibbles and giveaways, cool contests and lots of timely discounts.

Highlights include a magic show at Telegramme Prints, free roses and chocolates at Winkel (plus “mean mommy” movies screened all day), no tax at Festoon, treats and a fun raffle at Baby On The Hip, plus bubbly cocktails and cool gifts with purchase at Doll Factory, free cookies and caricature portraits at EyeSpy — plus special brunch and dinner menus at Baldini’s, Gio Rana’s and Kubo Radio. All participating merchants will be selling WonderMom! buttons —- proceeds from which will benefit Gilda’s Club of Toronto (a non-profit initiative offering counselling, peer support and social events for people living with cancer).

Tree festival

Also happening on Queen East is this Saturday’s Leslieville Tree Festival. Organized by LEAF, Councillor Paula Fletcher, and the City Of Toronto Parks, Forestry And Recreation, this fun and free family bonanza features tree planting, kids’ craft activities, a wallet-friendly native plant sale (perennials start at just $5), as well as impressive tree acrobats, music, food and a mini-market of local vendors selling handcrafted eco-chic wearables — plus info from local environmental groups on how to leave a softer footprint on the planet.

Where: Lesliegrove Park, right at Queen Street East and Jones on the north side of the street.

When: Saturday, from noon to 4 p.m.
