Grey Cup–winning B.C. Lions might be sold, source claims

Leftovers from a Grey Cup turkey:

• Now that his B.C. Lions are CFL champions, owner David Braley will aggressively try to sell them, a club source suggests. “Perhaps the franchise is worth a bit more after (Sunday night’s triumph over the Montreal Alouettes),” the source said. “I think he’s wanted to sell for a couple of years but hasn’t been able to get his price. Now, he might. And he’d go out as a winner.”

• The Lions will each receive $14,000 for winning the Cup. The Als get $7,000 each for losing.

Kidd

• From B.C. linebacker Carl Kidd on his coach, Wally Buono: “He was cool this time. In (the 2004 Grey Cup), we had a curfew, and it was like we had sticks up our butts all week.”

• From Montreal receiver Ben Cahoon: “B.C.’s defence is good, but not the toughest in CFL history, like they think.”

• From B.C. quarterback Dave Dickenson: “This Grey Cup would have been funner if we blew out (the Als). I wish we were more entertaining.”

• Despite all the hype and pre-game bafflegab from shameless CFL shills, mostly in the electronic media, Metro readers couldn’t have expected more entertainment from the Grey Cup after reading these words in this space last Thursday: “Sunday’s championship showdown could be much like too many of the CFL’s games were this season – dull, one-sided and all but officially over by halftime.”
